A six month old pure white kitten named Frosty was adopted by my daughter and son in 2009.
Frosty was given his name before we adopted him and we liked the name. The name comes from the Christmas song “Frosty the Snowman” which fits our handsome prince very well.
When we adopted Frosty, he was potty trained well, so the adoption was very smooth without any accidents.
When Frosty was little, he was very active and he enjoyed chasing moving objects.
My son bought a laser pen for Frosty to play with. When my son pointed the laser pen with the light turned on at the floor and moved the laser pen very quickly, Frosty always chased the moving blue spot on the floor with intense concentration. He was very cute.
My daughter used a colorful shining long chain that she got from Disneyland to teach Frosty how to fetch. My daughter sat on the stairs with Frosty next to her, then she threw the shining chain down to the wooden floor. Frosty watched the shining object sliding on the floor with a clattering sound intensely. Slowly, Frosty started to fetch the chain from the floor and brought it back to the stairs where my daughter sat. My daughter would then throw the necklace down again…
Frosty brought lots of joy to my son who was in elementary school and to my daughter who was in middle school.
Frosty loves guests. Whenever he heard the door bell ring, he would hurry to the door to greet the coming guests. Inside the house, he would often circle around guests while meowing. Frosty’s hospitality brought happiness to many cat lovers.
To me, Frosty was also a good coach because he trained me to be calm whenever I was facing a big mess. I learned this important lesson from him like this:
One Saturday morning, Frosty pushed a plant pot which was at the top of the bookshelf to the floor and broke the pot. While falling down, the dirt in the pot scattered on the bookshelf and between the pages of the books on the shelf. The entire bookshelf and the floor was a big mess.
I was very angry with Frosty and began to shout at him. However, Frosty ignored my temper. When I was shouting, he performed a series of innocent motions while seated on his favorite natural wicker chair: “I am cute”, “I am thinking”, “I have done nothing wrong”, “I don’t care”. Frosty’s innocent motions calmed me down.
When I started to clean the mess, Frosty quickly came over to inspect my progress.
While cleaning, I imagined that if this mess had been made by my kids, I would definitely preach responsibility and principals to them, and I would definitely request my kids to clean the mess up by themselves. However, the naughty one here did not understand responsibility and he also did not know how to clean up so I had no chance to give a speech, because it would be a waste of time.
Once my thoughts reached this point, my anger vanished. I cleaned up the books, the shelves, and the floor thoroughly in a peaceful state of mind.
Pets are a good at simulating love and contentment.
Nowadays, Frosty enjoys staying with me a lot. When I am laying on the coach, he often climbs on top of my body; when I am watching TV, he often stands in front of the TV screen; when I use the computer, he often lays next to the keyboard…
